Does it have to be close to the house? I feel if it needs a good place that needs some sun, it should be more out in the open...

...Maybe over here? [ the path leading up to the cottage, sort of off to the side where there's only a few small plants growing in a small patch--there wouldn't be much shade from the trees around the garden, or the cottage itself. ]

That's a decent distance. Might be able to sneak the cord just inside the window, in that case. I fear puttin' it through the door in case it gets damaged...

Mm, definitely. You might be able to run a few appliances on it for cooking and other things too, so long as they don't consume too much power.

That's a good idea! A teakettle would give you boiled water, which could be used for a lot of things.
